Hi,
I have an xprotolab hardware version 1.4 and firmware 1.05 which a friend gave me a while back and I'm just getting started with it.
I want to use it with xscope, which I've downloaded and installed correctly.
From the forums I guess I need a USB-UART cable. I haven't been able to find one to buy anywhere so I tried to make my own.
I have a USB UART guy which I use for programming Arduinos. I chopped one end off a micro-A USB cable and soldered the wires as follows:
Black: GND
Red: VCC
White: TxD
Green: RxD
However when I start xscope, even with sudo, I see "Cannot open device". At least the UART side of the equation is working: I see /dev/ttyUSB0, just as I would in the Arduino IDE.
Any ideas?
Steve

The linux program Xscope does not handle the Xscopes protocol./\r\n/Try Xscopes-qt./\r\n//\r\n/P.S./\r\n/For linux you need to run the following:/\r\n//\r\n/1. Install libusb-1.0/\r\n/ sudo apt-get install libusb-1.0/\r\n//\r\n/2. To avoid setting permissions on the changing usb address:/\r\n/ create this file: /etc/udev/rules.d/64-xscopes.rule/\r\n/ with contents of:/\r\n/ SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="16d0", NAME="Gabotronics", MODE="06f9", GROUP="plugdev"/\r\n/

Hi Steve. The serial interface has not yet been implemented in the latest XScope software. The .NET version had some partial support for the serial interface, you can try that to see if it works.

Two years now from the previous post. The Mint Linux looks like it would work well on a larger display. But, my Mint attempts have not gotten the the whole GUI to fit the Acer Aspire One screen. It would be pleasant to install a Linux version that shows the entire GUI without using the "move" and "size" options to see a control. Switching between tabs works. Anyone know if some version of Linux is compatible with the Xscope GUI?

This post is a bit old and dead but just in case anyone is looking through it (or has an email notification from it) I have posted a new guide for setting up in Linux here.
