got Noise? i do was created by jdoorly
Got my xprotolab working: ?Found the right driver (which doesn't use a comm port).
I was worried about having to use ?RGxx cable to wire it but saw in the photos section no evidence of that though one pic may have demonstrated twisted pair, so i went ahead with hookup wire (actually phone wire 28 awg). ?But, i seem to be having a problem with noise now, for instance between AWG and channel one (without cables attached).
Although at first i made my own cable i now use 2 regular 1x/10x o'scope probes. ?The enclosure is a small plastic Radio Shack one. ?There's a switch to select CH2 or AWG, and another switch to select CH1 or a 3 prong header to connect sensors.
So, do i need some RG cable (if so where?) or a metal box?
Appreciate any thoughts on this,
j

The 40 to 60mV of noise that you see is known./\r\n/It is a combination of many factors:
- Noise from the DC to DC converters: It might not be easy to reduce this noise as it will require adding more filtering to the power supplies and change the PCB.
- Noise from the CPU: The common technique to reduce noise from the CPU is to put it to sleep during the acquisition. But I cannot do this since I need to continuously store the samples and find the trigger event.
- Noise from the display: Some of the digital noise from the display finds its way to the analog channels.
- External noise: Since the device is just a PCB assembly, external noise can easily affect the signal.
In SCOPE mode, you can get a slight improvement by turning on the channel average./\r\n/If the signal that you are measuring is periodic, you can turn on the elastic option,
The latest firmware is 2.40.
