Voltages are reading high; Firmware update

Voltages
My Xprotolab-Plain (GT-0007) began acting up, so I checked the voltages: ?+5V is reading +6.8V and +3.3V is reading 4.35V.
I checked my digital multimeter against a power supply; no problems.
I switched USB cables and PC's; no change.
I disconnected the USB cable, connected a +5V supply to the +5V pin, and read the +3.3V pin; saw +4.35V.
This doesn't seem to make sense. Please comment.

Firmware Update
I'm getting the "update your firmware message." I am following the procedure for Windows 7 using FLIP.
I'm supposed to connect pins 1 and 6 at the external connection and power up. ?Is this the 6 inline solder pads adjacent to the USB connector? And I solder a jumper wire between the end pads?

Hi! if you are reading 6.8V from the 5V pin, then there is something wrong with the USB. The Xprotolab does not generate a voltage higher than 5V. It only has a negative voltage generator to generate -5V./\r\n/If you power the board with more than 5.5V, then the board will be damaged, the 3.3V regulator and -5V generator will probably go bad./\r\n//\r\n/To enter the bootloader mode to update the firmware, just connect a wire as shown on the picture while you connect the USB cable.

It pays to get away from a problem for awhile. While at supper it occurred to me to do a further sanity check using a fresh 9V battery to test the meter. Sure enough, I got a 12.5V reading. So I looked at the display for a low battery warning. It was there but so dim I could hardly see it. I replaced the battery and now have 5.12V and 3.29V readings on the respective pins.
But I am still having operating problems. I power up the Xscope with the USB connection and the AWG connected to either Ch1 or 2. When I activate the PC Xscope display all I see is hash on screen until I force a trigger. Then a full-screen amplitude, single-cycle sine wave appears, frozen on screen. Playing with vertical gain does not affect it.
Again, a comment will be appreciated as much as your previous comment and very helpful photo.

So did you update the firmware? Are you using the latest software? Did you install the USB drivers using the Zadig tool? Can you provide a screenshot of the "hash" and other waveforms that you see?

Below is a photo of the screen. (I haven't been able to save screen shots using the procedure in the manual.) This hash persists in a frozen state no matter what I do. (I call up a new screen for each attempt and have played with re-applying USB power to the scope.) I have tried no connections to the scope, CH1/CH2 grounded on both pins of each, and now even inputting AWG to CH1 no longer shows the sine wave I described previously./\r\n//\r\n/I have not updated firmware yet and have used the older interface to maintain the configuration that has been working previously./\r\n//\r\n/I know it's hard to troubleshoot problems at a distance, but any further suggestions will be appreciated.
