Great product that I had set aside for too long...
I have an XprotoLab I got over a year ago. The splash screen say version 1.46
So this is pre-USB. Can I upgrade it to use USB by flashing through the serial port?
There is a 6 pin connector with Tx/Rx etc which I assume would be the UART I/O
BUT... the USB to Uart cable you sell has a miniUSB connector on the device end.
Do I nead to berak this out to the 6 pin connector, or is the "USB" IO actually a plain UART
until I flash it over to a newer version?
Can I buy the $10 CP2102 based cable and then manage the upgrade without hardware hacking?
(Luckily I did not try to connect my prolific USB to UART as that has the standard RS-232 voltages which the 3.3V XMEGA would NOT like. I could I suppose add a level shifter or resistor divider, but for $10 why hassle with it!)
Or am I totally hosed and should just buy a newer XprotoLab which will include the protection diodes that are (I see) missing from my version on the USB data lines, and be USB ready?

OK... I figured it out.
I installed FLIP and followed the directions to upgrade firmware. Tried the 1.4-1.5 hardware version and got blank screen.
After the panic, I decided that maybe the splash screen is showing firmware version, not hardware, so tried another version
Actually I have 1.7 or higher hardware (how does one determine the hardware revision?)
Now it's all working under version 2.2 and I even got the PC software to work.
Quite a few feature work but one that doesn't seem to is save CSV file.
What is needed to get that functional?
Capture for reference also does not seem to work.
Could you gray out the features that don't work yet to avoid confusion?

Hi! Great that you were able to update the firmware. The hardware version is marked on the back of the board. About the PC software, I'll try to continue to work on it in the next couple of weeks, but there is also one independent developer that is making a multi-platform app for the device, he might have something ready by the end of the month.

Great news on the software progress.
Meanwhile I'm going to try something with a script in RealTerm.
If you haven't seen this it is a great replacement for Hyperterm which was removed from Win7
It has a lot more capabilities too including I2C SPI as well as telnet stuff.
