The Xprotolab can still work ok at 4.5V, however, if the voltage is lowered further, it will decrease dynamic range on the analog inputs.
The Xprotolab can still operate at around 3.5V, but lowering it further will dim the display.

If the Scope is supposed to run off of 5v, how do they get it to run using 3-AA batteries??? Is there a +/- 5v variance???

Just would like an answer in kinda plain english how it works this way.

Thanks ahead of time, for your time.

Actually. Recently, i'm working on a algorithm that should be able to display a 128x64 image in greyscale at 10 to 20 fps using component video.

If i get it to work i will share the source with u.

It cheats the resolution conversion by skipping scanlines and pitches.

[ganzziani 2011-12-08 18:21:01]:

Currently, HW 1.7 does not have the USB stack ready. However, the USB bootloader does work. I have just updated the manual to show how to update the firmware.

The PC application is in development as well, but the Xprotolab 1.7 can communicate to it thru the external port.

Nice thanx

Thanks for building such an awesome tool, by the way!

I got a v1.7 Xprotolab, and while I'm aware that the PC interface is still in development, I don't see any tools or information about it. I'm not asking for ETAs or anything, but I would love to know a bit more information about the USB protocol you're developing, or perhaps a place where I can stay updated on it.

Either way, keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see what else you can come up with :)

Thanks,

KodeK

I thought so since i have all the inputs & outputs i could posibily need for it.

Thanks for the input.. keep those cool devices comming.

May the force be with you. =)

It would be challenging to take a video signal and display it on the Xprotolab display.

If you are experienced in programming microcontrollers, it would be simple to create games on the Xprotolab.

Topic : Dude.. this is just a amazing tool and gadget.

A buddy in the usa sent me on of these for some reason.

After reading up on it all day and messing around with it

i am VERY impressed with it's size and capability.

I ordered about 20 of them from a distributor in south africa 7 of them i'm giving as presents this Xmas to a few good friends around work.

The others i am keeping for myself. =)

Thank you for the effort.

I'm working on a project to use a XMEGA Xprotolab as a screen for a small handheld genesis game console.

Trying to figure out how to convert Composite video for use with a osciloscope as a display.

I'm not the most switched on guy in our electronics group at work.

Can any one please help me?

Thank you.

:-edit

Pehaps there is a better way to get the image onto the screen.

I was wondering.. would it be posible to fit a small game into the memory of the device.

Like 'pong'?

Yes, there is a readme file in the zip file that indicates the version.

Was just checking to see if you have an update. Wow, you DO, I have 1.08

This is the hex download: xprotolab-hex.zip 112KB?

The Xminilab uses a new microcontroller with a USB module, so communication with a PC can be done with a regular cable. The USB stack is not ready yet. USB firmware uploading is ready.
The next hardware revision of the Xprotolab (1.7) will uses this microcontroller as well.

On the XMinilab product page, you say that USB Connectivity is in Development. What does that mean? Is this the same kind of UART connectivity that the XProtolab has, or is this true USB device connectivity?

And, if the latter, will firmware update be possible through that connection?

Finally, will this functionality be available on the XProtolab (I have hardware v1.4)?

Thanks,

The refresh speed is the same as the Xprotolab, perhaps you were checking with a slow sampling rate. The real fast display refresh rates occur when the time base is faster than 512uS/div.
I have uploaded the xminilab demo source code.

I'll check the refresh rate. I'll upload a demo version of the source code this week.

OK, I figured out how to guess the correct URL for the source, but the source appears to be for an older version, based on how the code assumes a parallel OLED interface and the schematic says SPI. Is the source available for the currently shipping version?

The Xprotolab has a really nice high speed frame rate for refreshing the waveform - faster than my Tektronix scope!

The Xminilab refresh rate seems much slower.  When I look at the SPI signals for the display, the Xminilab takes about 2 ms to write the screen, but the frame rate is only about 4 fps.  Is there a way to make it update the display more often?

Also, the link on the site for the Xminlab schematic is incorrect - it points to the Xprotolab schematic instead.

EDIT: It's the Xminilab source code link that is incorrect, not the schematic.

Any update on a new release of the PC software? I know you said you were working on some new hardware at the time, and were planning on doing some more on the application soon...

would be very interesting to have a 1V and 1.25vper Octave reading for analog synthesizers (Moog and Buchla standards) some techy info here: http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/SINGLEBUSSKEYBOARD2007/SINGLEBUSSKEYBOARD2007.php
