No, there are no pads or test points for the buttons. I didn't plan to use them, I wanted to use a 2 sided PCB, and I wanted to maximize the ground plane on the bottom side.
You could add a wire directly to the micro, but since there is no display, you wouldn't know in which menu you are in.

Just wondering if it's possible to add hard buttons to the Xp Plain. i.e. are there solder pads already in place?

This mostly works, just want to add a couple of notes here.

First: "make build' should be "mkdir build"

Second you will also need to install libusb-1.0-0-dev and libudev-dev

Thanks!

I perform offset compensation. I read the offset from the ADC when there is no signal during calibration, then I subtract this during normal operation.

The procedure to update the firmware is on the user's manual, although that behavior does not look like a firmware issue. Have you tried using the XP version of the zadig tool?

At 20ms/div and slower, the trigger is placed on the left of the screen.
If the trigger is not visible, then you probably have the ROLL mode enabled, in which case, the trigger is not used.

Hi

I have question please answer

How you remove adc offset of xmega? I worked hard to build my own DAQ but the offset always vary when micro power up. I use Diff mode and connect neg input to ground.

I believe I did install it that way, but I don't see instructions for how to use Zadig.  Recently I found when measuring an audio signal on both channels the scope screen becomes unresponsive to any setting changes, but I can still change tabs and change the setting items. I have to close the program and re-open it to make it run again. This happens more often when the time scale is increased beyond 50ms/div.  I thought it may be related to CPU or memory use but it is not any better with a 5 years newer computer.

Device properties shows driver version 6.1.7600.16385.  How do I update the firmware?

The on screen setting cursor for the trigger delay and trigger level vanishes when I set the horizontal rate slower than 10ms/sec.

It seems like it not only vanishes but the trigger position becomes random as it no longer has the trigger edge in the same position on every trace.

How to I set an edge trigger for ahorizinalt rate slower than 10ms/division

I m using an Xprotolab board with the latest download of Xscope running on a Windows 10 machine.

Thanks for the quick response. I found an error :

the device is no ttyUSB via USB and a screen dump is only via serial port. So I tried on the ext Interface but it didn't work.

In the manual it says I have to stty ... and then rx ...
But in the command section it is shown I have to send a "C" command for screen copy. So how can this work without sending the command ?

Hi! Thanks,

I'm not a Linux user, but you will find some tips in the forums, and on this page:

Hi there,

after updating the Firmware (the Xminilab was sitting some years on the shelf and waiting) I got the USB driver

working and the software is working now in windows. It is great ! Some people tell it a toy because a real scope for them is something with 4 channels and some Gs/s and of course costs some kilo $. But if I just want to check

some low frequency this is all I need (just 0.2 watts instead of 50W, working from battery and transportable).

I get a signal generator and a 2 channel meter etc. And the software for pc is nice. Very well done.

I have an ARM Linux board and tried to run the software (as shown with ODROID) but had 2 problems :

-  when connecting I see a full speed USB device but no /dev/ttyUSB0, where is the problem ?

- when I tried to install QT5 I get an error

How can I just get a screen copy to a file as shown in the manual (with stty) ?

Thanks for help

Joachim

Hi, did you install the driver using the Zadig tool? Are you running the latest firmware?

Hello,

I have been using the Xscope software with the Xprotolab plain board on my PC running Win10 Pro 64.  The program constantly locks up when using the board and I have to restart the program each time to get it to respond again.  Sometimes the meter screen works but the scope display screen does not.  This usually happens multiple times during each use.  It was also happening on another PC running Win7.  Can you please help me this is very frustrating I am going to get some other product if this can't work properly.

This post is a bit old and dead but just in case anyone is looking through it (or has an email notification from it) I have posted a new guide for setting up in Linux here.

There is some old advice for getting linux working but it is very out of date.

First of all the official linux download is entirely useless. It is a compiled binary which is of no use to anyone. Secondly the official github source cannot compile with the latest version of QT. Instead we need to install from the user ewisuri, who fixed this. Open a terminal and navigate to somewhere you want to dump the source. Assuming you have GIT (if not, install it), run:

git clone https://github.com/ewisuri/xscopes-qt.git Xscopes

move into this driectory with

cd Xscopes

make a new directory for the build and move into it

make build
cd build

ok we will also need some extra packages you may not have, you will need (you may need more, which I overlooked and already had)

sudo apt-get install build-essential cmake qtbase5-dev libqt5serialport5-dev pkg-config

Now run cmake on the main directory

cmake ..

hopefully this didn't fail. Now we can run make

make

This should have made a nice executable you can run called xscope, to test it run

./xscope

Probably this will open but the traces wont be moving and the terminal will complain that the device wasn't found. Even if it is plugged in. This is because the permissions are not set properly. You can check this by running xscope as root:

sudo ./xscope

This should work but is an awful solution. Instead we should play with udev rules. A previous post mentioned how to do this, but the rule given has an incorrect file name, and it uses NAME which is no longer valid due to systemd. So let's do it a slightly new way. Make a new udev rule with

sudo touch /etc/udev/rules.d/64-xscopes.rules

note it is .rules, not .rule!! Let's now edit it:

sudo nano /etc/udev/rules.d/64-xscopes.rules

in nano enter

ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{manufacturer}=="Gabotronics", GROUP=="plugdev", MODE="066", SYMLINK+="XScope%n"

Press Ctrl+X to exit. Press Y to save, and enter to keep the file name. This code is simply telling the computer that when a USB device from Gabotronics is plugged in, it should be in the group plugdev, and that users in that group (you) have permission to use it. It also symlinks it to a nice place in /dev to make it easy for you to find, if you so wish. Now we need to make sure the new rules are loaded:

sudo udevadm control --reload-rules

Unplug the device and plug it back in. Now when you run

./xscope

everything should work!
