Firmware upgrade to V1.05
I used AVR Studio and AVR Dragon to load V1.05 firmware. I noticed several improvements.
My fingers are quickly learning the menu system, seems very intuitive. It is a neat instrument! |

On hardware version 1.4, the USB communication is done using a UART to USB cable.
The Xprotolab internally is just using the UART.
I think it would be very diffilcult to convert hardware 1.3 to 1.4. |

So how are you doing USB communication? Last we talked, you didn't think you would have room for a software implementation, and were looking at a hardware mod. From what I can tell of the 1.4 schematic, it looks like you are taking the software route?
At any rate- very cool. Any chance we will be able to get out the knife and convert the 1.3 version to 1.4?

You will need to pry the OLED very carefully, that double sided tape is very sticky. Try prying from all angles you can access.
Once you lift the display, try to remove the tape as much as you can and just put new tape over it. If you have not yet ordered the parts, send me an email, I can send you the TPS60403 and the tape. |

Thanks Gabriel. I suppose its possible, I was running the unit off of a 6V unregulated wall wart, using a 7805 to regulate the voltage to clean 5V. Digikey has the part, I should be able to fix it. |

I have good news. Two popular requests will be possible in hardware version 1.4:
1) Connecting the Xprotolab to a PC will be possible using a UART to USB cable. Here is a preview of the PC application, although it is not doing much right now. 2) Firmware upgradable. Also, with the use of the USB to UART cable.
But one bad news is that I have run out of program space. No more new features can be added, at least until the ATXMEGA64A4 becomes available. |

Hi. It looks like the -5V generator was damaged (TPS60403). This chip has a maximum rated voltage of 5.5V. Maybe you accidentally applied more than 5.5V volts to the Xprotolab?
About the menu, if you see something that doesn't look right, please email me so I can check it out. |

New information: I just realized that if there was an issue with the -5V generation the op-amp would have issues. There it is, -5V pin on the op amp and on board is 0.15V. When unplugged there is 11Mohm between the -5V and GND so i dont think its being pulled down by the TL064. Something else is dead. Switcher perhaps? The TPS60403 charge-pump is what I bet it is. |

Trouble with Xprotolab
Hi Gabriel,
I know you must be busy so I'll try to be concise. My unit has begun to display 20VDC on both inputs in scope and meter mode. Meter mode also shows that it is reading 6.2Hz as the frequency of the inputs, which are unconnected. Whether or not this was the issue, there was a short from the output of my 7805 to GND (which resulted in the 7805 getting hot, as to be expected) but nothing ever touched the Xproto. I was viewing the output of the AWG at the time on channel 1. The unit seems fine although sometimes the menu is sluggish, and over-writes on top of itself. I have tried a settings restore but this just resets any changes, doesn't fix the problems.
Have you ever seen something like this occur? Please let me know if there's anything else I can try.
EDIT
I used your supplied schematic to do a bit of debugging, I found that the output of the TL064 for the channels is latched high (4.2V), resulting in the 20V readings on the screen, and the AWG output on the TL064 (pin 14) shows no 1khz signal but the microcontroller AWG output (pin 6) shows the 1khz signal fine. This leads me to believe that the TL064 has ended it's life. |

One more : for your protocol sniffer - RS 485 oke i am aware that i also need a buffer IC for that but it is used a lot.
Keep up this great work :) |

If you invert one of the channels, then activate CH1+CH2, you get the substraction.
[coinbird 2011-03-22 09:21:48]:
Having a blast with the xprotolab. Request: Channel Math: CH - CH2 (unless subtraction is there already and I'm not seeing it ;) Thanks for a great product!
