Why is the MSO and AWG limited to 8 bit resolution? It looks like the ATxmega128A1 has 12 bit capability for both DAC and ADC?

The Xmegalab uses a fast external 8 bit ADC. The DAC is capable of 12 bits, but I only use 8 bits to save RAM and for simplicity.
